Safar - Discover.Book.Experience

Project story

Problem Statement

  • Vendors had no centralized platform to list activities
  • Users struggled to find and compare local experiences
  • Booking and payment processes were manual or fragmented and mostly handled locally on books
  • Admins had no structured way to manage vendors and commissions

Client Vision

The goal of Safar was to create a single platform where users can easily discover and book local activities, while vendors can list and manage their offerings. The platform also gives admins full control over vendor onboarding, payments, and operations.

Solution

  1. We built a complete ecosystem that connects all stakeholders:
    • A user-friendly website and mobile apps for browsing and booking activities
    • A vendor panel to manage listings, pricing, and bookings
    • An admin panel to control approvals, payments, and overall operations
  2. The platform supports both hour-based and full-day activities, making it flexible for different use cases.

Features

  1. Activity listing (Tours, Adventure, Parks, Wildlife, etc.)
  2. Hour-based and full-day booking options
  3. Vendor onboarding with admin approval
  4. Smart pricing models (flat pricing & custom slot pricing)
  5. Multiple age-based pricing options
  6. Secure payment system
  7. Two payout models:
      1. Full payment to admin
      2. Split payment between admin and vendor
      3. Manual and automatic payout settlement
  8. Mobile apps for both Android and iOS
  9. Real-time booking management

Challenges

  1. Designing flexible pricing logic for multiple activity types and scenarios
  2. Managing split payments with both automatic and manual settlement flows
  3. Creating a smooth onboarding process for vendors with proper verification
  4. Payment Gateway Integration Challenges:
    1. The project required advanced payment capabilities like split payments and controlled settlements. During implementation:
    2. The first payment gateway initially supported the required features but later imposed a minimum business revenue requirement, which was not feasible for a new platform
    3. The second provider approved the integration during initial discussions but later declined support for the industry after onboarding had already started
    4. This led to delays and required multiple re-integrations before finalizing a third payment gateway that fully supported the use case
  5. Ensuring consistent performance across web and mobile platforms
  6. Handling real-time bookings and availability without conflicts

Benefit

  1. Easy discovery and booking for users
  2. New revenue channel for vendors
  3. Full control and visibility for admin
  4. Scalable system for adding new activities and vendors
  5. Improved operational efficiency
